Hello all,
I am a Newbie so be gentle! I have a Z150 with a 44" sfs deck. I have had it for many years and still runs strong. The deck has finally disintegrated and is not repairable... I have searched far and wide to find a used deck for a replacement. The Toro and other websites list it for over $2000.00! Nuts! I can buy a whole new unit used for alot less, but I want mine, it runs well! My question is, is there some place to buy used decks, (I have a hard time believing that with all the commercial contractors out there replacing their equipment that there is not a used deck some where), or better yet, is there a deck that is compatible with my unit? I do not care about width, 44" or what ever, I just want it to be compatible with my unit.

thoughts?

thank YOu,
Tim

The first thing to go is the deck so they are always in short supply.
However if your deck is the fabricated one then any decient fabrication shop can cut & fit a new top plate
I have remade more than one deck and resurected more than one pressed deck that had more rust than steel .

As for a used deck, by the time you fit new spindles / bearings. a pulley or two plus repaired the ovaled out tension arm you are getting close to $ 1000 then add the cost of the mower to that and $ 2000 starts to look quite reasonable.

It is funny how peoples minds work.
$ 1800 for a new drive, no problems
$ 3000 for a new engine , fine
But $ 2000 for a deck, no way

Thanks B! good point! I purchased this unit from a contractor friend that used it a couple times doing cemeteries so not much commercial use. I have had it the better part of 15 years or more. I was only looking for a deck because of my luck... I have no problem spending the money for a new deck, just with my luck (my glass is not half empty, its broken), the engine will go. I will go for the deck, I know I have a nice unit that was never abused, a little smoke when she starts, but always starts!
thank you!

Always a problem but it is just a mind set
If that mower was used in a cemetery then it was probably used with a bagger & the rings will probably be worn excessively for the hours on the mower .
OTOH they are wear items so if the chassis is good, everything else is just a matter of service .
Then look at the price.
Down here a Z master will leave little change from $ 20,000 ( AUS ).
I have made up more top plates for decks from scrap checker plate than I really want to remember .
We use swing back blades on a lot of ride ons down here so I end up with a lot of high quality boron steel worn blades and there are a lot of decks out there with more blade patch plates than the original steel.
A DHC 2000 welder is around $ 400 US + bottle hire and that unit will litterally weld rust together so perhaps you have just enough time to pick up some new man skills before the season starts.
While you are in the tool store, get a compressor and the longest air duster you can find.
I have a couple that are 4 ' long and these make keeping the deck top clean really easy and that is where most rust through from.

if you have the part # , search exmark also. they purchased toro in 1998 and most parts are the same with same part numbers. if you've searched for a used toro deck, try searching for a use exmark deck. even a 52" is the same except blades and belt.
