I recently had to replace my drive belt and noticed afterwards that when I release the brake I get a horrible rattling noise. The old belt had wear marks and a possible tear on it but I cannot tell where or how the brake might be impacting it. Any advice?

Replace both idler pulleys, bearings & pulleys are probably shot.
items 50 & 52. Yes it looks like you have 3 idler pulleys for drive belt, 2 number 52's & 1 number 50. Yes spring as well, what does your Operators Manual say about brake adjustment?

I am also noticing that the brake appears loose when released would that indicate the spring as well, also looking at the link you sent are you referencing parts No. 50 & 52?

It is supposed to be loose.
Because there is only one pedal for both the brake & clutch, the pedal has to dissengage the drive by slackening the belt before the brake is applied
