My neighbor wanted this gone from his yard. So it came mine. I would like to know is age.
It must have been a good rer as it doesn't have any part that is not worn out! Even the
motor was a broken rod. I also would like to know how to remove the deck as I'm going to
take it to the scrap yard.:frown: If anyone can use a part, let me know. I'n in Nevada.
thanks, LB

That engine looks to be original, so if it has its stamped numbers, you can determine its age from the code: Determining Engine Age | Frequently Asked Questions | Customer Support | Briggs & Stratton

I'm thinking it's early '70s, and it's a Series 1.

No one bid on the old guy. The local pickup hurts actions like this.
I will take it apart and recycle it to the scrap yard.
Good day,

Re: Year of comet. 1977

Well the deck is apart. Everything except spindle (quill or what ever) came off. The spindle bolts will not move. It looks like the blade is original with the vacuum assist.

It's a shame you do not know what you have tore it up. $200 all day I could sell 50 of them today. With the bad engine

Your right you have a 1977 snapper.
Looks to me like everything is there

What you have is one of the most collectible mowers from that time.

Well if you want any part just ask. The cables seem to in good shape.
The motor has a hole in the side. The rear end is toast, the tires are
toast, but the wheels are good. The front steering is all worn out and
modified with newer parts welded on. The steering wheel is good. etc.
Even the gearshift housing is worn out!
I can see why they are collectible. The engineering is very good.
