Non OEM types belts don't work well on MTD products, or if they work usually not for long. You could also have another problem that I will discuss if need be, but for now lets get the belt straightened out.

Ok. I'm picking up the belt today.

I replaced the belt. I still have the same problem.

It is routed like this...

There is still way too much slack in the belt.

What was the belt part number that you are using??

Even with the engagement level down it is so loose I can remove the belt with my fingers. It seems like there just isn't enough tension on the belt.

I am not familiar with this model, but on mowers with engagement cables, there is always room for adjustment. Can you snap some pics of both end areas of the cable?

It is very hard to get a camera in that spot. I'll try again. I'll post what I was able to take but I'm not sure it will help.
