If the guides have moved the heads were probably overheated ruining the alloy hardness. Briggs (for instance) will not sell bare guides, probably because they will also move when reinstalled. When I had the problem the press fit measurements were ok , but the guide moved again. New head with guides solved the problem. In my case only one of the Intek V 24 heads was affected suggesting a casting quality problem also.
