I have a 6.75HP Craftsman self propelled with a Tecumseh engine. The problem. I prime , pull would run good for 6 seconds and die. I have cleaned all the jets, I have replaced a main nozzle tube and its O-ring, replace the primer assembly, the air breather to carb gasket, the fuel bowl to carb gasket. Still does the same. I am about to throw the @#$$% away. Any suggestion???? BTW. I get fuel in the bowl. I have not replace the spark plug.:confused2:

I'm guessing you need to remove the bolt that holds the carb bowl on and re clean. Unless that is what you are refering to as the main nozzle tube........This bolt is also a jet. Is this what you replaced?
Check out the video that was poted today for the 6.5hp, I think it's quite similar to your engine.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the response. The nozzle tube is a plastic tube with small orifices the fits in the center of the bowl assembly. It stadns vertically. Its tip extendes to the venturi throat of the carb when the bowl is attached. I'm guessing it draws fuel from the bowl to mix it with the air.

I saw the video but no it is not the same. I have a plastic bowl with no bolt at the bottom center that serves as a jet. I do have a coarse thread screw that serves as a fuel drain. The manual Id 's it as "fuel drain screw". I did not see any orifices on it. I have a main nozzle tube that inserts to the "emulsion tube" of the body of the bowl. part number is 632545. There is a main nozzle jet inline with the drain plug (PN 640021) but I clean that as well and saw carb cleaner jetting of the nozzle tube when I sprayed the jet. The carb Part number is 640020. You can google it.
The lawnmower number is 143.986700

Thanks for the help, keep it coming

I have a Tec that is the same. I think somehow it warps as if a person can get it hot it runs a bit longer. Started out it would stop running after bumping it while running, then when going over some rough ground, then would not run without pumping the primer. Over time it just got to the point it will do just what yours does. I had a fellow work it over three times, every time it worked fair but started the same thing within a few mows. I got tired of messing with it, the deck is very poor on mine, and it only side discharges, is clumsy, and the fit is poor for a man my size. I parked it. To be fair, mine was abused a great deal.

a common problem is the primer system and the gaskets associated with it..........if it the plastic emulsion tube...you need to get the height correct on it [ as high as possible]

Don't toss it... everything can eventually be fixed...
Check this link... Small Engine Equipment Troubleshooting, Repairs and Safety
Scroll down to the Tecumseh carbs, spot yours and it should have some help... :smile:KennyV

Well, what can I say? I finally got the lawnmower working again. I must thank KennyV and the rest of members who participated in my thread. I finally had to do a full overhaul of the carb. I pulled it apart completely and replaced the welch plug, all o rings, gasket etc.. I didn't do the math but probably the cost of all individual parts came short of just buying a new assembled carb. I never figured out what was the real problem. Was it a plugged vent, a bad o-ring? I'll never know. So, in light of the above I ask myself...Was it worth it? yes and no.First, No because obviously cost , time and aggravation, and the risk that another bigger issue might soon appear rendering the lawnmower useless. Yes because I experienced a sense of achievement and pride. Showed my son the rewards of perseverance. But honestly I hope I can keep these "learning moments" few and far in between!!!
Thanks to all:rolleyes:

Great that you have it working...

Most likely, with my kind of luck... the next time you need to do this, you will have completely forgotten this particular experience... and you will get to do it all over again:biggrin:.... :smile:KennyV

Did you replace the needle and seat ? Check the float level?

If you mean the seat and needle of the float level assembly , yes I did. I also check the float was not puncture or damaged. But I know that was not the problem because I was getting fuel on the bowl and the malfunction was most likely of not getting fuel into the venturi port. My best guess is when I removed the welch plug, I was able to clean the small ports.

Ok. Got it running but now after major carb overhaul, the engines starts but rev's slow and the it start oscillating from slow to almost normal speed back down. After a good warm up, it stabilizes but is seems to run low power. I do not see any adjustments. Any ideas? Is it the Tec Vector Carb or is it electrical or what? :confused2:

Hi all, I see this is an old thread, but I have been having the same issue. I'm in the midst of carb rebuild. Questions about the main nozzle. Mine is not removable. Do I do anything to it? Is there o-rings in there that I need to replace? I'm ready to reinstall on to the snowblower once I figure this all out. Also, how to properly adjust the throttle cable as when I bring mine to the off position, the machine does not turn off. Thanks in advance
