FYI, marine stores (i.e. West Marine) sells 1/8" line (spectra?) that is awefully strong.

Thank you. Decided to get the entire top with cord, as suggested by Robert of Honda. It was about $11 (eleven U.S. dollars) and delivered in just two days. Unbelievable value for an OEM part(s).

Wow! Changing the starting top piece took under 26 seconds! I feel so stupid for asking how to repair this section. All is fine. Mower starts. Rope is fine. Only thing missing: The OEM label on the top.

Fascinating the way this part works. When pulling on the rope, the center turns and then these two arms reach out from the center. Anyone (other than Robert) has seen this in action?
