Repairs Why does my hood not fit correctly on my craftsman YT4000

I removed the hood to see if there was anything loose or possibility of adjustment.
There is about a 1.5 in gap from where the hood rests and where it should be.
The hood moves around a lot when mowing.

Check for broken plastic around by the front hinge area.

If yours is like my DYT 4000 the hood lifts off and on. When engaging the "tooth" (on the hood) and the slot (on the frame) I find it is possible to miss a proper engagement. Try again and again to properly engage that combination.
