White smoke??

My John Deere (ridding mower) and I were cutting the ditch in the front yard.As I was coming up the side white smoke started coming out but eventually cleared up..What happen? And what can I do about it?..Thanks for any help..Pete

When running at extreme angles , like mowing a ditch, side of a dam, steep hills, the excessive lean can cause oil to be forced into the cylinder.
It can also cause the oil pump pick up to be pumping air

Cumulative damage will occur.
Avoid running across slopes and in particular doing it for long distances like along a long bank or the sides of a drainage ditch.
If you have a property where this can not be avoided consider getting a mower with a horizontal shaft engine.
Because of the different lay out horizontal are less affected by tilting than vertical shaft engines.
Down side is they are a lot better engines so cost a lot more.

Sometimes running the opposite direction will help as well.
