White smoke after hearing a pop

Any ideas what happened and what the possible issue is? I was mowing the grass and pop then white smoke. Shut the mower down for about 20 minutes, turned it on and rode around for about a minute without any smoke and then the smoke came back and now it won't go away.

Check the oil level
Should be very low
Check the crankcase for a counterweight poking through
Check the upper & lower oil seals for being blown out .

I drained the oil and wiped off all the oil that I spilled onto the motor/exhaust. Ran the mower for a few minutes and the smoke went away

Lol yes I did. I'm thinking what happened in the first place is overfilled the engine with oil and it backfired/started smoking. Idk though I'm not an expert. Drained all the oil, put in new oil and wiped off all the oil from the motor/exhaust and it stopped smoking after about 30 seconds or so.

These air cooled engines like to be ON the full mark. Not above or below. SAE30 oil is cheap. Check the oil on flat ground prior to starting EVERY MOW. Make it a ritual, check oil and add fuel.
