I am going to purchase a Cub Cadet RTZ 50. Home Depot sells one with a Kawasaki engine and Tractor Supply sells on with a Kohler engine. I have not been able to find any engine comparisons online. I would appreciate anyones input.

I am sure they are both good engines, excluding the Courage due to more consumer engine quality, but if you need any parts for the Kaw you may be limited to getting parts from the Cub Cadet dealer only, since parts are not well stocked with very little aftermarkets, and Kaw has a policy on a lot of there engines where the OEM dealer has exclusive on parts. The Kohler parts would be more common and could pick them up at any dealer, or in some cases at the big box store.

I've had all kinds of engines on my mowers. I vote for the Kawasaki. I have a 2009 RZT50 and the engine just runs great. No starting problems, ever. I have Kohler engines on two of my lawn tractors, and they are always breaking down. I only have one BS engine still running on another lawn tractor, so I don't think much of those engines either. I've never had an engine run as smooth as the Kawasaki engine. Guess I'll have to deal with the parts issue, if it ever breaks down, but till then, it's my favorite.
Good luck on your purchase.

ILEngine makes a great point. You could look around your area to see if any of the other dealers have units using a Kawasaki engine. If they do they would have access to parts. I know that Toro uses Kaws in their Zturns. If you can find someone who can get you parts, I vote Kawasaki, but I would rather see you go to a dealer and not the big box stores. It would be to your advantage in the future.

As ILENGINE said I they're both good engines. I can say I run both and both makes have done a great job. Personally I'd find a dealer in your area that sells the mower you're looking for and stay away from buying at Home Depot or TSC. You'll get better service on the mower if you buy from the dealer ( they will service what they sell first ) and if something should go wrong you'll only end up there anyway.
