Stens sells both of these head gaskets and they have the same dimensions. Looking for someone smarter than me. Shouldn't be that hard. Are they interchangeable? Does one supersede the other? Different year model engines? The 465-043 is like the old L head engine gaskets. Looks like it would be better at not blowing out at the pushrod cavity. Any thoughs
Thanks

I would also use the 465-043 when ever available, for the reason you stated.

Well the 465-516 is the 31 CI engine head gasket and the 465-043 is the 21 and 28 CI engine head gasket. I am surprised you don't use 465-516 in place of the 465-514 33 CI engine's head gasket.

The main different is the fire ring size.

I have the 456 514 gasket and it has the slightly larger cylinder opening. The cylinder opening of the 2 pictured is the same size.

Then Stens is pulling one as I have both 273280S and the 796584 Briggs gaskets and they have different size fire rings.

Yep.
The gaskets are coded by the position of the joined holes.
No joined holes = smallest bore size
Joined at the side is middle bore size
Joined at the top = largest bore size

As Stens buy the gaskets from China probably a packaging error.
And yes when I can get them I use the aluminium gaskets
If the engine gives you greif then contact Lanni@coppergasketsUS.
He will sell you a water jet cut solid copper gasket in whatever standard US copper sheet thickness you like for around $ 10
