When I move the pto lever to engage the mower blades, the engine stalls.
I have checked the PTO switch near the lever. Checks OK.
wanted to Ohm meter the clutch, but didn't know where to look for it.
I removed the pulley assembly that engaged the deck and transmission (1 assembly) but did not see the clutch. Expected the clutch to be joined to the pulley assembly.

If you have a lever to engage belts you don’t have an electric clutch (PTO). The lever controls an idler arm to put tension on the belt

On mowers with electric clutches.
So as you have a lever, you have a manual PTO engagement so your "clutch" is on the deck in the form of a pulley which mover to tighten the deck belt.

Thanks that sure helps. What causes the engine to stall then?

Does the mower also die when you release the clutch/brake pedal. If it does then you need to be looking at the seat switch and associated wiring and/or relays.

With the deck removed - engine started- moved the PTO lever (on Dash) to ON. ENGINE STALLS. If I don't actuate the PTO lever, I can drive the tractor with no problems.
John Deere LA135 does not have an electric clutch.

other things that I have checked:
push button on dash *(lets you cut grass in reverse) used an ohm meter and it checks out.

PTO lever which operates another push button switch.
on side is normally open while the other side is normally closed. Push Button in and the continuity reverses.

Will continue to check further on Monday.
rain has caused the delays......now parked in garage and won't have to worry about weather.

The seat switch and /or the parking brake switch are faulty.
Somewhere behind the dash is a switch that gets pushed in when the PTO lever is in the off position
There is another one that looks very similar that gets pushed in when the parking brake is in the off position.
