Wheel falls off

I have a Murray lawn mower. The wheel fell off while mowing. I could not
find the nut so I took the bold to Lowe's and they gave me a nut and
lock washer to attach it. The trouble is I cannot tighten it too tight
or it will and actually did come off since it was not on tight at all. I
cannot mow the lawn until I get this on right. Any suggestion?

Thanks

Hi gbsk

You need a shoulder bolt to make that work,it's a bolt that is small where the threads are and larger in diameter where the wheel go through it. Go back to the store where they sale mower part and take your wheel with you and tell them you need a bolt for this wheel and they should be able to help you my gosh Lowe's should know if the person you talked to doesn't not know then find a different sale person and if you go through enuff sale people some one should know. Why the bolt you have doesn't work is there is no way for the bolt to tighten up againt just the wheel then it will not turn. I think this is a push mower, right. Welcome aboard to LMF hope you enjoy us.Good luck:biggrin:

A shoulder bolt is your ideal choice. Failing that, a flat washer(s), some blue Loc-tite, and a nyloc nut might cure your issues. Take a look at the other wheels on the mower that aren't giving you trouble for inspiration.

I have a murray with 4 broken wheels...which I had hoped would not be too difficult to replace. Bought the wheels and I find the NUTS won't come off. So now I need to figure out what sort of NUT is the problem ? Eh ?

Never took a class in nuts.
