Ok all, I'm new to this forum, and I need some help. We just bought a new house and it almost 3 acres of grass, need some help of what brand of yard tractor to get. From what I have read on the web it sounds like the Koehler engine are the best is the biz right now. Would need some advise on how many horses I would need ( my guess is no less than 24) keep in mind that I will also be needing a snowblower attachment for the winter. Any advise would be a HUGE help as my head is swimming with all this.

For 3 acres you are going to want a mid-grade lawn tractor, not one of those entry level ones. And definitely since you want to attach a snowblower. Which brands are you interested in? (Someone else can help you with the # of HP.)

Twin Cylinder for sure. Not sure that I would rank Kohler as number one, I like Kawasaki.
As far as what and how big, a lot depends on your budget.

Depending on the size of your drive, don't look past the prospect of a dedicated snow blower. You can get a hell of a machine for under $1500. Even a $1000 Ariens is a fantastic machine.

Kawasaki in the liquid cooled verison has been very good to me I cut my Step Moms lawn with a BUSH HOG Zero turn that had the Kawasaki in it . I cut a 4acre yard 12 years and never had a single problem with the engine. The X540 John Deere seems to be a pretty good value. The one I just bought used has 432hrs. on it with a 54" deck. I still have to get a blower for it.

Hi again if your like me you study this stuff till its no fun. I forgot to mention that the Co. I work for Sargento Foods has this same model. I think they are buying a replacment this year due to the fact it has around 3000 hrs on it with normal service. They have the Hard Shell Cab for the winter walk way clean up. You might want to ask for a test drive. I never have the time to do that sort of thing but I know people I work with have. By the way I don't have stock in Deere. If you look at one have them show you how the mower deck is removed ,its pretty cool the way they designed it. Do you own a 426 Hemi?

I have the YTH24K48 from Husqvarna, it has the 24hp Kohler Courage and I have over 30 hrs on this engine and it has plenty of power and tq. If you have a flat yard and need to mow 3 acres I'd look at this mower from Husqvarna.
It has a 54" Fabricated deck with a lifetime warranty I think. You can get this mower with a 24hp Kohler engine which would serve you well. My apologizes, I don't think this one has the fabricated deck, it's like mine I think which is still a high quality deck. Here's a picture of mine.
