What kind of truck do you use for your business? I have been able to get away with using my 2000 chevy s10 4x4 (picture was taken last fall when it was not registered) and i can fit my blower, my push mower, and my 2 trimmers with ease. It gets pretty tight when i have to bring my riding mower. i usually put my blower and a trimmer in the cab of my truck (have not taken a trailer yet, and when i use my rider i dont bring my push mower). Just curios on what you guys use. Feel free to post pictures!!

No, but there is not really a need yet, since I work primarily in my neighborhood. But as I get more equipment and expand my working area I will get one, either just a truck or a truck and trailer. I was really wishing I had one when I was pushing my snowblower around the neighborhood on Saturday. That thing is SO heavy! I had to push it kind of in the middle of the street where cars had made the snow melt, because it is like impossible to try to push that thing in the snow without turning it on (which I did some of the time).

I have a 1998 Dodge Caravan with 225,000 on it I use it to pull my 12' trailer, it is getting tired.
Most guys around here have late model 4 door 4 wheel drives. To each his own but I 'm sorry I do not want to tie up 25,000 to 50,000 K in a truck ! I want to plow my money back into better equipment for my mowing & landscaping jobs.
I am looking for a ( older ) Chevrolet Suburban, they have a towing capacity of 7,000 -8,000 Lbs ! and will haul 5 big boys if I have a big landscaping job to do and need more then my regular 2 guys. Most have all the creature comforts like dual A/C , leather & a nice comfortable ride. But they also have the needed heavy duty stuff too, a factory trailer hitch platform with a Locking Differential & 7 wire trailer light / brake pre-wire harness and a transmission Oil Cooler
But what I am really after is that 7,500 towing capacity !

The trailer is listed as 6x12. It's made by Triple Crown. It actually measures almost 7x13 which I thought was kinda weird.

I will give you a little advice about trailers and this is just my opinion but I'd stay away from anything with a mesh bottom. The reason is the mesh will sink everywhere your mower and equipment sets except where the braces are and it becomes a problem getting your mowers off and on.
When you buy a trailer and can manage buy the ones with the 2x6 pressure treated lumber floors, if you should break one of those and it's doubtful you will it's an easy fix.

Ric that is so true ! My bro has a little 6 X 8 trailer with a mesh bottom I use it if I just need one mower and a little equipment and do not want to drag the heavy duty 12' around.
It is just like Ric said the mesh is sinking right were I park the heavy mower every time !

I shouldn't have to worry about that with my light mowers.

you could get away with just a tuck for right now since you only bring your new hrx, your blower, edger and 2 trimmers.

Ya the mesh bottoms are terrible. My brother used to use one with a mesh bottom and after using it for a little while the mess sank in where he had the mower and eventually completely broke and there were holes. He had to put pieces of ply wood over the holes and also on the ramp to load the mower because the ramp really got ripped apart. He no longer has the trailer but I definatly wouldn't recommend a mesh bottom.

I use a Ford Ranger with the 4.0 liter 6 cylinder. Pulls a 10 foot trailer pretty well. Just not going to run up any hills! But it gets the job done and doesnt do to bad as far as gas milage goes.

 From what I understand from the people that run those 5.4 engines. That they are good engines and easy on fuel, depending on the rear end gearing. But if I were to buy a 3/4 ton and up, Ford of course, it would have a diesel, either a 7.3 or a 6.7 Cummins.

#34

C

Ya i know, my father runs all 3 of those engines but the most i could afford on my own was the 5.4. So i guess you gotta do with what you got lol

I got a 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe ,350 ,4 wheel drive. It only has 100.000 miles as it was the fire chef truck for the city and well maintain. It has the factory towing package with all the trailer wiring and a 8,000 pound class 5 hitch.
I have never owned a 4 wheel drive but it has come in handy a few times and pulls a big load of mulch with no problem.

Buy a trailer. You can tow it behind any kind of vehicle. You can get them under $300 brand new if you want to put one together. I've run a pressure washing business from behind a '72 Impala convertible. Customers don't care what you drive as long as the price is right, the job gets done and you don't leave a dead car in front of the house.
Not only are trailers handy, if you get a covered one they're secure against theft (if you remember to lock the door) and it keeps everything out of the weather AND the garage.

I run a F350 single rear wheel 4 door long bed 4x4 with rail boxes and front box. The tool boxes allow me to carry a chain saw climbing equipment bar oil etc in one box. Blades, belts, extra oil and a case of 2cyl oil with tools to fix anything within reason in the field. The front box has straps, chains, a come along and some specialty treatment chemicals in it. This truck typically has the dump trailer and sometimes my mower trailer behind it.
I also run a Chevy 2500 standard cab no frills just A/C and cruise control that serves as my mowing truck and pulls a 18' landscape trailer with 2 ZTRs a walk behind a push mower 2 string trimmers, 3 blowers and a stick edger. I've a shell on the back of it that i keep 4 5 gallon cans of gas in extra oils straps in blades belts etc.
