What is acceptable?

I recently removed my b/s intek engine off of my troy bilt pony to check my camshaft and decompression on it. I would like to know what can I use to clean the inside of the engine with. As some dirt, grime, and debris managed to find its way inside the sump and on the inside of the cover.

Any nonwater soluble degreaser or carb cleaner. I would stay away from mineral spirits or paint thinner.

I've used everything from kerosene (#1 diesel; same thing) to brake cleaner.

Hey man thanks for the reply I think i will try a couple cans of brake cleaner
