My Weed Eater has a problem with the steering, when I try to turn right when not moving all I get Is clicking but the wheels wont turn until I start moving. Model number 281707 had a 13 HP Tecumseh but shop swapped In a 12 HP B&S Flathead.
Yes, if those parts are correct for your model number. It looks as if the pinion gear is a bevel gear made on the end of the steering shaft and is to be replaced as a unit. Occasional lubrication of the new parts ( bushing / bearing pivot points and gear teeth ) will be key to longevity.
