Repairs Weed Eater Riding Mower Steering Problem.

My Weed Eater has a problem with the steering, when I try to turn right when not moving all I get Is clicking but the wheels wont turn until I start moving. Model number 281707 had a 13 HP Tecumseh but shop swapped In a 12 HP B&S Flathead.

The bearing surfaces the pinion and sector gears pivot on are wore out. Replace bearings and gears.

Yes, if those parts are correct for your model number. It looks as if the pinion gear is a bevel gear made on the end of the steering shaft and is to be replaced as a unit. Occasional lubrication of the new parts ( bushing / bearing pivot points and gear teeth ) will be key to longevity.
