I am about to buy a Honda with a plastic deck. Toro and Husquvarna allow their customers to wash the underside of the deck by attaching a hose to a nipple and running the engine. Can I install such a nipple without causing damage? (Years ago, I hosed the deck of my John Deere against the salesman's advice, and had to replace the clutch within three weeks of purchase.)

Honda does not recommend spraying water under the deck when the engine is hot. Expanded bearings can get water trapped inside, and prematurely rust. Honda says to let the engine fully cool off before washing the mower.

The wash out ports ( nipple ) are just a scam to get you to buy the mower.
As Robert said it is not good to hose off under the deck when the engine is hot.
