Walker Hi-Dump Problem.

Hi all,
Can anyone help ? . The Problem : When I dump using the Hi-Dump fully extended , the catcher remains in the high position and will not retract. This has happened on 3 occasions, seems to happen after I have waggled the machine to shake out any remaining cuttings.

This does not happen every time , probably 1 out of 10. On one occasion the problem cleared while I was trying to fault find with a multi-meter (probably 1 hour after problem arose) , on the other 2 occasions the problem had cleared without hesitation the next morning .

I have removed electrical connectors in the pump and hydraulic solenoid area, and tightened any suspect loose connections. When the problem exists the pump will still try to pump up , but not down. when dump switch selected I can here an audible click, but no click when lift selected. Hydraulic oil level in pump is good. 1/2" to 3/4" above central bolt.

I do have electrical knowledge, but unable to find an Electrical schematic or circuit diagram for the Hi-Dump on the Walker website.

Out of all of the mowers I repair, the Walker technical division has been the most helpful by a very long margin.
And I am a competitor , not a Walker dealer.
It does of course pay off because I will recommend buying a Walker without hesitation.
At a persona level I can be of no help as none of 4 Walkers I service have the high dump fitted.
So give Walker a phone call, but have your model & serial number handy before you do.

Don't bother with the local representatives they are less than useless.
I tried for a month to get an answer from the OZ agent but all they would do is send me to the sales rep who said he had no idea.
Where as the factory tech staff could not be more helpful.
Ring them late in the afternoon and you will catch them yesterday morning.

Thanks again, I am very reluctant t take it to my local agent, as it will probably take them 2-3 hrs. to reproduce the problem, about 2x that to fault find and it could clear itself in the meantime . At $90 an hour .

Come to think of it, I never had this problem before they did a...… Hi Dump Relay/Harness upgrade at $250, and Grass Pak Switch ***. Upgrade at $260 Neither of which I asked for !!!. I didn't know about it until I got the Invoice !!

Hi All, Problem solved. ; I traced the problem to an intermittent relay. When I went to the local agent , they told me they had a similar problem with another mower. It appears that if you hold both the "lift" and "dump" switches at the same time (who doesn't), it is possible to burn out this relay. (i.e. the inner one of the 2 near the motor/pump ). I think Walker should consider updating the electrical circuit so this can't happen. So that if you are operating 1 switch you cannot operate the other and vice versa.

Do it yourself
Wire the lift & dump either side of a 2 way rocker switch
Then wire the close & drop on another 2 way switch
That way you pop your finger on one switch ( rockers are good for this ) to lift then slide it down to dump
Then move your finger across to the other switch to close the bin & slide your finger down to drop the the bin.

The other type of switch that might work is a mirror switch , one of the old toggle types so you can do only one of the 4 operations at any one time
