Can anyone tell me what this drive system is called? It uses a chain drive system and runs the cogs backwards to create the forward movement. I've been looking for this type of mower for quite some time now an cant seem to find any. I spent about an hour just today and only came up with this picture. Any help is greatly appreciated.

My Dad had one of those in the early 80s. Coast to Coast branded. Little shaft stuck out of the engine, ran the chain. Locked up after a couple years and then the shaft turned bent and crooked and he just pushed it. Was kinda cool in a weird way. No idea on the name of the drive.

If my memory is any go that mower was built by AYP in the 80's and is no longer made. A few problems with them. Wheels got eaten by drives. Chains rusted and liked to jump off. Control cables were bad. One speed, fast.

Thank you everyone for the assistance. Now just trying to narrow down the years. Found some Pictures online of mtd, craftsman, and Montgomery ward mowers with this drive. Anyone by chance know the approximate years of these?

Carscw.. Do you by chance have a serial or part number on it?
