Ok

I have a Kohler Command 25HP fixed timing engine with no SAM modules etc just plain old ignition coils.

What I really need to know is the wires in the engine to scag loom connector were they should go.

I have one green white which connects to the starter solenoid which is correct.

I have another fused yellow wire that don't know were it goes but seeing as it is fused must connect to something that could draw a lot.

There is also a white wire which doesn't connect to anything on my connector.

Everything else I can figure out but there is no explanation on the wiring diagrams of what happens past this connector on the Kohler side and the Kohler diagram is only for a stand alone engine not spliced to a Scag.

Ok I'm back on fixing the wiring on my 1999 Turf Tiger Scag mower. It would seem the previous owner replaced the Kohler engine with a different spec that had a seperate keyswitch so its all a bit of a mismatch and I have two keyswitches wired into the system. The keyswitch on the panel will start the mower (only when the keyswitch on the engine is in start position) but not turn it off. For that I have to turn off the engine keyswitch??

To top it off I have found the keyswitch on the Scag panel is also faulty and allowing the yellow wire terminal (the lone terminal on the side) to short to ground which was obviously causing the fuse to blow.

I will have to remove the keyswitch on the engine.

I will then connect the white wires from the coils and oil pressure switch (green wire) to the white wire in the scag loom.

The starter solenoid wire connects to the green/white striped wire in the scag loom.

The red wire in the scag loom connects to the starter positive.

That leaves the black wires in the scag loom which are ground.

Now the only thing left is to supply power to the carburetor solenoid. Would this connect to the only wire left in the scag loom, the yellow wire which goes back to the keyswitch on the panel? As it is faulty I cannot figure out whether this has power on startup and running?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Does any body have a schematic for the module plug connections and the connections for the key switch. also the relay that is in the instrument panel for the scag turf tiger.years 2000-2005? I have the electrical schematic that is in the operators manual. but i need to know what the module and relay do.

If the electrical diagram in your operators manual is not in color, with your machines model and serial numbers, you can go to the Scag website, click on operators manuals and find your machine, it is a savable printable pdf download.
The yellow wire shown close to the keyswitch is actually connected to one of the terminals on the keyswitch and is the charging system output.
The relay that is close to the keyswitch is the engine cranking relay. When the safety circuits are correctly aligned, the electronic control module will provide a ground for the cranking relay and allow engine cranking.
The electronic control module is a solid state circuit board that performs all of the machine safety functions during the starting, running and PTO/mower deck operation.
Cranking condition: Parking brake on, control levers out, PTO off, seat switch actuated(operator present).
Engine running, PTO off condition: Parking brake off, control levers in travel position, seat switch actuated(operator present).
Full operating condition: Engine running, machine operating, PTO on and mower deck turning, parking brake off, control levers in travel position, seat switch actuated(operator present).
The electronic control module:
Will shut down the engine if either control lever is moved in when the parking brake is on.
Will not allow engine cranking if the seat switch is not actuated(no operator present).
Will not allow engine cranking if the PTO switch is on.
Will shut down the engine if the operator leaves the seat while the PTO is on.
Some older machines had 3 or more relays and a lot of wiring in the safety circuits to accomplish what the Scag electronic control modules does.
Scag still uses a cranking relay as this circuit has a fairly high amperage demand as compared to the other circuits which are just voltage sensing.

thank your info was great. the turf tiger i have is sst61-25ch SN#5430113 .Kohler engine . my unit has no spark and i thought if i knew what the key,-module and relay do, i would figure out why it stopped right in the middle of mowing.Your explanation of the relay and module helped a lot. I have the complete manual for my turf tiger with electrical schematic. would i be able to disconnect engine harness and crank engine to see if i had spark? if i can, then i would know the problem is in the scags wiring. if i had a connection chart for the key switch i could trouble shoot that also. thanks
