Troy-Bilt Self-Propelled Walk Behind Lawn mower

Hello, I needed to remove the screw that holds the spur gear on the drive shaft of my lawnmower, but I have not been able to. The mower is almost 14 years old, and the screws seem it's like they're welded on. I did spray some WD-40 on the screws earlier today and maybe in a few days it might loosen up. When I try removing the screw the drive shaft turns as well. I tried holding the drive shaft with pliers but it keeps slipping. Not sure if I should try holding the drive shaft with a pipe wrench or would this damage the shaft. If anyone has tips on how to to address this issue, I'd appreciate it. Thanks

I see your problem you need WD40, not DW40 :ROFLMAO:
WD40 isn't the greatest penetrant, i prefer liquid wrench or PBlaster.

do you have a torch or any way of heating up the screw?
if so, heat the head up, cherry red and loosen it.

I'll try the liquid wrench. I don't have a torch or any other heating device. Would holding the drive shaft with a pipe wrench work, to keep it from turning? Thank you.

It should. If you're concerned with damaging the shaft, put a towel in between the shaft and Jaws of the pipe wrench.

You also probably need an impact grade torx bit.
