The repair part you will need is part number 746-04206. When you get it look for some place when you can hook it so when you shorten the cable you will put tension on the belt. It should be straight in line from the broke cable.

i order part 746-04206 cable.
but in the parts diagram it was showing a spring that is not on my machine.
also when i do hook up cable i dont know where to hook up cable at. And the cable is going to pull towards the back of mower which is going to loosen the belt. if i push pulley bracket forward machine moves. But thats by moving pulley forward as the cable is going to pull the pulley so the belt is loose.

I think that the end of the cable is going to go in the small hole shown in pic #1. When you pull on the cable it will pull the black attaching plug forward to tighten the belt. The Z bend will be attached to a stationary point which will not move. The spring will be attached somewhere that will return the tranny and belt to a loose position, so the wheels will stop driving.

Hi
My cable snapped - the z attachment piece is just gone. Just ordered a new cable 746-04206. Where does this attach to on the cable mount bracket (#787-01258A)? Also, how do you remove the old cable from the clutch lever (731-05187)?
Thanks

How did you end up fixing your mower? I have the same thing wrong with mine, except I have the spring. I does not make sense to me how this works.
thanks
chuck
