Hello i have a craftsman mower that i had to replace a tire on and i can not get the wheel hub cap back on. I didn't damage it during removal or anything and i have been using a heat gun to heat it up a bit before trying to get it on but i have had absolutely no luck at all. I found a small cylindrical piece that fits snugly on the hub cap to help coax it on but no luck. Any tips or advice any one can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

They are PVC so heating it will tend to make it shrink.
I oft have to cut them off in the first place.
If it is still pliable then sit it in boiling water and use some channel lock ( plumbers ) pliers to stretch it out till it gets cold .
If it is really hard, buy a new one.
If you can not afford a new one right now then swap one from the back.

I buy them in bulk packs of 200 and swap them.
Customer pays $ 2,50 each and I save a lot of time
I tell them they got a bargin because Husqvqrna charges $ 11 for them down here.
John Deere uses the same caps on the LA L & plain 100 series ( another reason why I believe they are made by AYP ) but they charge $ 3 each.
Occasionally some one checks and finds out the price I told them was true so I become a hero.
The same cap goes on the steering pin on the cast iron axel housings

Thanks for all the input fellas. I succeded in getting it on by stepping back and letting grandad take a stab at it. What taken me 2 afternoons and acouple new cuss word inventions took him 5 min. He simply heated it with the heat gun i was using and then gradually bent it out using his hands bend and spin and repeat. Thank god for Pap!!!lol I did look the part up and i can get em for 2$ from sears.

Buy a couple and keep them on hand.
The next have not done it yet you should also take off the back wheels. grease the axle and refit them or they will rust solid onto the axles.
