Based on what you all have shared, for me the Echo 225 and Husq 223L were my two choices. A deal has come up to get a 4 cycle Honda HHT25S with Speed Feed for 200.00. Of the three, what would you (my knowledgable lawn site friends) go with as the best value?

If you don't mind the maintenance or the weight of the Honda (I'm also assuming you're not going to use it commercially and put 20 hours a week on it) the Honda at $200 is a hot deal. Is it new or used?

No. Not a commercial guy. Large lawn/farm residential use less than 20 hrs a week. The honda was bought and buyer decided not to keep it due to weight before ever using. Made it open box. Has been serviced and runs great (new). Weight difference not that big a deal for me. End the end, I want the best for my 200ish dollars. Reviews, like zero turn mowers, all offer strengths and weaknesses. All three will have service decently close if needed. So I like to hear opinions of those here how are knowledgable and mower on a regular basis as opposed to a salesman. In the end, like mowers, I will decide, but like t decide with lots of info.

Have never used a honda trimmer.
I have a cub cadet 4 stroke it is all power but heavy after a couple hours. I will assume the honda is the same.
We use the echo srm225 for every day trimming and use the cub for tall thick stuff. The cub just out powers the echo.

For $200 I would get the honda if you are ok with the extra weight.

In that case I'd get the Honda. It's much smoother, quieter, doesn't stink, and about the same power as the husky and echo. Excellent that it already has the $30 speedfeed head as the stock honda head is time consuming to reload.

I've dealt/hated the ryobi/mtd/cub cadet 4 strokes - they're all the same motor - and they're much heavier, rougher, less power than the Honda GX25. I prefer 2 stroke as they tend to be lighter with a better power weight ratio and I don't like to worry about another crankcase of oil to keep track of.

As I personally own and use an Echo, that is the route I would recommend. In the three years I have owned it, the only thing I have ever done is replace line and add gas.

I can't believe noone has brought up the Tanaka. You can buy them off amazon sent to the house for $185. I bought a new head obviously speed feed. I use it everyday all the time for 2 years my $400 still sits in the trailer only to be used on bad ditches. You will not be disappointed by this weedeater. Hope you didn't buy anything yet cause this is what you want!!!

The only Tanaka close to 185 is not a straight-line trimmer (or at last I did not see it. The straight lines all price in at 285 or more (lots more in some cases). Do you have the link to the Tanaka for 185? I do like Amazon for buying new items. I actually have prime...free second day shipping on prime items, video, etc...if you have an edu email you can get prime for half price.

Buy this weedeater. Like the other fella said they are $265 now. They must have realized what they had. This trimmer is in the $400 range. Ad said new in box $192. Might buy me another just to have they will go up..

I decided for the money/value for me (large residential load/not commercial max use hours) the Honda HHT25SLTAT trimmer was the best choice. Brand new open box. Checked and serviced by a very qualified friend of mine. They filled the tank, spent 20 plus minutes letting me ask questions and going over every aspect of the trimmer. Even added the speed feed head showed me how to fill by filling with with magnum gator line (plus 16 ft extra line). All parts included and still has the warranty. All for 200 OTD. Used today on some tough brush and around the house. Worked flawlessly. I do not notice the weight at all. I used the strap as well. Starts first pull. Had it upside down, sideways, etc. and it performed as described. I feel for a 325 + 30 (speed feed) + tax=370plus trimmer with great reviews, I got a deal for 200. Now...we will see about performance over time....well...over time.
