Trimmer Line Spool Holder (DIY)

I found out a way to hold my trimmer line spool. I found a crate I had, and used a PVC pipe as the axle which I stuck through the center of the spool. This makes it super easy to pull out and cut the trimmer string. I even put an Echo sticker on it!

This will stay in my garage. At the beginning of the day I cut multiple 6-7 ft. strands of trimmer string, and attach them to my trimmer, so I can just take one of them off and use it instead of bringing a whole spool with me.

EDIT:

I now made this crate a "universal spool holder" that holds all of my spools in the garage, including the trimmer string, paper towels, and twine. And now whenever I need one of these things I can just pull out the right amount, cut, and use. No need to mess with tangled twine!

you really mower fanatic - such neat details : )) (true - line, sticking and hanging from the pocket, too often not always there when you need it : ))))
i like the neat idea with carabine clamp - click it to trimmer, belt or to whatever you want...
when you think of it - it would be also cool to have a permanent clamp on the trimmer ... (or two, so it wouldn't dangle)
thanks for sharing, LMF
good idea
i gonna screw some extra line to trimmer with some soft wire tomorrow ... : ((( ... and maybe some nice cable clamps later on ? ... : ))))

I wear cargo pants and shorts and keep some extra in my pocket because it seems you are always furthest from the truck when you run out. This goes for gas as well

these are a lot simpler than what I did,, I drilled a 1/2" hole in my trailer siderail, found a 1/2" x 12" carriage bolt, used 2-1/2" nuts and washers and a spring, (1 nut holds the bolt on the siderail) slide the spool over the bolt, flat washer and light weight spring on top of the spool, snug the second nut on top of the spring (creates drag so you don't unwind the entire spool when you pull line off it).
your's is a great idea too.

off course not - not in two pockets!
: )))
as said Weeny Churchill: "Every joke has part of joke" : ))

guy worked with me told - they had long stretch to trim - long walk, trimmer will run off gas just shy from the end, so they normally been dropping one guy at opposite side with some little water or coca bottle with the bit of gas to refill - just enough to finish his way back ... : )))
... slackers : ))) - or human ingenuity ... whatever works : ))))

My old job had a really long stretch to trim and they would run out halfway there they did carry an old upcycled quart of oil turned into gas can with them to get back

I edited my original post in this thread and added pictures of my additions to the spool holder (page 1).

I might have to try that with the clips! What kind of trucks are you looking at? I'm hopefully getting my license soon, and I've been looking into older Toyota pickups.

Wire coat hangar and some 1/2 inch pvc pipe and fittings I had laying around. Works perfect, hang anywhere and go. BTW thanks for the idea of clipping spare trimmer line to the machine:thumbsup: I've already followed suit!
