TRANSMISSION dying - axle overheating GT 52XLS

I bought a new Husqvarna GT52xls from the dealer last spring. I just use it for cutting grass, not towing anything heavy, and I'm only 190lbs. Recently I noticed the tranny getting a little slow, then yesterday it got really slow and died. I pushed it back to the garage and looked around underneath. I touched the rear axle and it was really hot. After an hour of letting it cool down it drove fine, but I didnt use it.

I called the dealer but didnt get an answer, might be on vacation this week??

Any idea why its running hot?

I believe your transaxle is Tuff Torque with locking differential, should still be under warranty.

Was this before you mowed or after you mowed ? they do get pretty hot when worked.

Still under warranty, I would think anyhow.

Check the fluid lever and fan blades?

How tell temperature? Infra red flash gun and add factor to estimate oil temp? They add a pump and cooler to race differentials. Wonder what the oil temp should run ? Thought the "i" added to XLS indicated locker? There is a limited slip on another Husqy model lawn tractor.

What trans do you have?

Have not seen tag or stamp, but data base says K-66 with locking diff and visual shows fan and tank. Use synthetic auto 5W50 per TuffTorque. Dash mounted locker switch.

The expansion tank is optional. I have not found the operating temp either.

I sampled 6 industrial sites which state max oil temp 160F to 200F. None of the TuffTorque specs online show operating temp. I called them but did not leave a message. I will email the question. The sites all say the oil should be maintained below max with a cooler if necessary. The temp should be taken from an active line and not a tank.

Edit: Second try at TuffTorque. They do not come to the phone and the email inquiry page was not functional last nite. I had talked to a person there couple weeks back. Did not leave message.
