Spent the day today fiddling with the tractor - at the expense of the TONS of other stuff that needs doing around here. Mowed the lawn. Cleaned her up. Changed the oil. Removed and cleaned the deck. Craftsman PGT9000 - some observations:
- Changing the oil is a breeze with the oil change tube. I've never seen anything easier. I'ts totally lame that it took this long to figure out that problem.
- Changing the filter - 'nother story. The factory tightened it TOO FAR, so I needed a filter wrench to remove it. Unfortunately, it required so much torque that the manifold for the oil cooler spun off first.
- Nothing on the mower or in the manual states the oil capacity
!! FTW? I called the Craftsman hotline and after 10 minutes on hold the tech told me it was 4.2 quarts! :confused2: I ended up adding and checking the dipstick. It took 2.3 quarts.
- The deck comes off easily.
- Even though I thought I was keeping the deck fairly clean, I found crusty stuff all over the bottom that needed scraping (tractor has 4 hours). So I tested out the deck wash system. AWESOME! Mowed the neighbor's lawn, then hooked up the hose to both sides of the deck - 2 minutes each. It was spotless afterward.
Took some pics after cleaning it up. I'ma post som'em shortly...
