Noob, me takes apart his mower engine because I thought damage was causing a backfire, Not the case I was running the engine without the blade.

I did that here : https://www.lawnmowerforum.com/thre...ick-back-is-flywheel-key-damaged.60151/page-2

Now I started to re-assemble the engine but realized I have now idea on much torque I should be putting on the crank cover case bolts or the bolts that hold the engine valve cover ?

I am just looking for some rough numbers ?

Any hints

Rough torque numbers don’t work for us. Post the engine numbers and we will get you the exact numbers you need. Members who reply are service techs, not guys who just want to reassemble some roughly.

thank you very much !, Now I was still confused as did not know the bottom cover was called the Sump.

So I googled Fastener Torque and I am now in gear head heaven with the ( MTD Profession shop manual ) : https://www.mymowerparts.com/pdf/White-Outdoor-Miscellaneous-Manuals-and-Bulletins/037107.PDF

On the page with fastener specs we can see the specs for IP70 engines. check out the Sump bolts row, the IP61 and 1P65 engines have a torque spec of 80 -106 in and IP70 16-18 ft-lbs.

Ok I was confused never seen numbers in ft-lbs so about 194 in-lbs, which seem like alot. way more than what my guess about 50 in-lbs

Tension looks reasonable
what size are the fasteners ?
generally the bigger the fastener the greater the torque .
