Hi I just purchased this mower from mowersdirect.com. It delivered on 7/12, and I successfully used it for a few minutes and then shut it down and put it into the garage. Came home today and the starter was running by itself with no key in the ignition. It was a grinding noise that only stopped when I disconnected the battery. I did try to crank it but it just clicks and pops like the battery is low. It is under warranty, but I have to take it to a dealer and unfortunately have no way to transport it. I'm not a mechanic but am somewhat handy - is there a fuse or something I can replace or what? I just emailed Toro, but doesn't help me if I can't transport the mower. Thanks in advance. Kevin

contact the dealer.
You have either a short in the wiring, a duff ignition switch or a duff solenoid.
The starter motor is most likley wrecked so you are looking at a big repair bill and voiding the warranttee .

I agree with Bert on this one, take it back to the dealer you purchased it from. You may have to pay a pickup and delivery fee, but that is giving to cost far less than the repair, plus you will not void your warranty.

Look for an authorized servicing Toro Dealer & contact them, they will come & pick it up for a fee. And I wouldn't mention you were testing things.

Since you bought it online, you may not get front of the line service, but they should get yours sorted out under warranty.

Thanks for the feedback. There is an authorized service provider about 15 minutes away, so I'll call them tomorrow. My issue is getting it there so hopefully they have a pickup/delivery service that isn't expensive, or they can recommend someone to do it. I haven't tried to do any repair on my own, I only disconnected the battery so the starter would stop. It appears this should all be warranty coverage, just really frustrated it's happening and I haven't even had it for a week yet and only used it for 20 minutes.

Have a quick look at the starter solenoid and check nothing has fallen onto it bridging the two heavy wires.
If you don't know where it is follow the thick red wire that is attached to the starter motor..
If there is nothing there but yo see something like the 2 wires touching each other, don't touch it just take a photo.
It is important that a repair file is started on the mower as it gives you leverage for any future problems.
