We have several of these ToroLX models a couple LX500 that have 50" decks where the deck belts are under constant tension, and the engagement is via electric clutch on the crankshaft. This LX420 had the 18 hp Kohler and deck belt is engaged when a lever is thrown to tension the deck belt. When the lever is released the deck belt becomes loose enough that it will drop off one or the other spindle pulleys. Originally there were covers that fit over the pulleys, I am beginning to wonder if their function was to act as a pulley guard to prevent this from happening. When the tensioning lever is released you wouldn't think it should provide this much belt slack. I am sure I am using the proper belt. ????
