My Toro 675 lawnmower with a Briggs & Stratton engine starts immediately after pulling the cord once. However, for the past few weeks (four one-hour mowing sessions), it runs smoothly / regularly for half a minute and then starts running irregularly (very regularly). Fuel supply is good, air filter is clean, carburetor is clean, and the automatic choke works properly. I suspect the irregular running is caused by the mechanism at the rear, which is controlled from the crankcase and operates the valve under the spring in the intake manifold. If I hold the small rod to that valve, the engine does run smoorthly / regularly.
Does anyone have an idea what the cause of the irregular running might be and how I can fix it?
What happens if I permanently lock the mechanism that operates the carburetor?
