Your don't tell us what you are thinking about putting it on. If it is a JD, John Deere does not recommend or have a mulching only blade. I may be wrong, but I don't believe there is a gator blade available for JD.

I moved your thread to the General Mower Discussion Forum.

Here is a quick list of a few pros and cons of mulching kits. I assume you will be putting it on a riding mower? A pro to a mulching kit is you don't have to waste time bagging the grass, and you don't have to discharge the grass, which can be messy. A con to a mulching kit is if you let the grass get very long the mower might bog down or the grass will clump. If you don't let the grass go too long you won't have that problem, though.

Gator blades will work depending on what mower there on, as Rivets ask or said we really need to know what mower your talking about.

Mulching my be for some, that to me would be a person that can keep their grass cut all the time to a shot
stage, For me i dont fit in that group, we have about 4 ac. yard, if it rains and i get behind, the mulching
kit sucks, I have a JD LT 445, that came with a mulhing kit on it, after trying it for all most a year, I took all
that Mess out from under the deck and put on a different set of Blades, now it EATS grass, it will throw
clipping over 12 ft away,
If Your grass gets very much out of hand it bogs the mower down because it cant get the grass out of the way of the
blades, early spring was a problem with wet clover, I know there is a place for Mulching, but it is a Power Robber
Just my 2c worth

I mulch every time I mow. If your grass is too tall and is building up under your deck, take a smaller cut until you get through that section. I have one section that grows twice as fast as the rest of the yard and I just split the cut into two passes. It 100' long and 30' wide. But if you cut regularly it won't be a problem. It also depends on the type of grass.
