I have a brute lkawn mower purchased from wall mart jan 09 and until recently have had absolutely no trouble. But now it won't start and I have changed the air filter (new) new spark plug, drained and replaced the oil with 10w 30 4 cycle mower oil. Have drained the gas and replaced twice. Have replaced the little oil dispenser that drips sometype of oil or antifreeze type oil into fuel tank. Do not know waht else to try

I just couldn't find anything on a brute lkawn. I could find just brute mowers and it just looks like a cheap mower that Wal-mart sells. The part that really got me confused is the dispenser that drips into the fuel tank??? If you are dispensing oil or antifreeze into the fuel tank no wonder it doesn't run?? If this is a four cycle gas engine I am going to say your fuel system will have to be completely cleaned out.

The "L" and "K" keys are right next to each other on the keyboard. It looks like he hit both keys at the same time.
Should read "Brute lawn mower".
The drip dispenser sure sounds like a mystery - could it be a return line from the carb or a primer bulb ?

I am going to guess you are talking about a priming bulb. This takes the place of the choke on the older mowers. You have tryed all the basic things so if you can get any warranty I would say try that next. If you can't I would get a spark tester (less then 5 dollars from auto parts store) and see if you are getting a good spark. You need spark, fuel, compression, and timing and it will run. Just going to depend how far you want to go.

Briggs & Stratton came out with a fuel cap that automatically drips a fuel stabilizer into the fuel tank in hopes that the problem the O.P. is having would not occur. The problem with the drip cap is that most people do not read the owner's manual to educate themselves. Hey, I'm just as guilty. How many people have read the owner's manual for the vehicle they drive??? Anyway, the drip cap needs to be replaced periodically due to the previous cap running dry. If a fuel stabilizer is used in the fresh fuel when it is purchased you will not need to purchase the drip caps.

Now on to the starting problem. Most likely you have a Briggs & Stratton engine on your lawnmower as I've never seen any other manufacturer put their engine on a Brute chassis but anything is possible. This particular engine most likely has a float carburetor and the fuel left in it over the storage season has gummed up the main jet. The carburetor can easily be removed, disassembled and properly cleaned with minimal tools and shop supplies. Go to youtube and search for your particular engine/carburetor combination and watch as many videos as needed until you feel comfortable about performing what you watched. If you do not feel up to the task take you mower to a reputable repair shop.

Good luck and ask questions. Make sure to take pictures of everything before you take it apart so you have something to reference during reassembly.

I forgot to add that if you do have a Briggs & Stratton engine, you used the incorrect engine oil. Briggs & Stratton engines, in just about every case, use straight 30 weight detergent engine oil. Change your engine oil.

the thing that drips is a Fresh Start Fuel Preserver Cap & Cartridge System
