How do you set timing on 14 horse Briggs over head valve engine. I took it apart to check if there was any damage when stator broke. Thanks Joey!

Unless someone has changed all the technology, it is still done by aligning the key seat in the shaft with the key way in the flywheel and placing the flywheel on the shaft with the key inserted and aligned with both. Torque the nut to specs.

Did you just take the flywheel off it did you get inside the engine

I think senior citizen has it right. Do tractor engines simply run at the static setting,TDC? Good question for dealers to answer.

If all he took off was the flywheel there is only ONE way it goes back on.

I would think that the big question would be: What broke the stator?????

Would have helped right from the start if you would have said you removed the crank or cam.

I know this is not what you have but it's close.

Just like in the pic line up the dashes with the piston at TDC

If you need I can take one apart when I get home so you can have a better idea

I'm still confused with piston at top dead center marks don't line up. But if you line up dots on crank and cam one way but if you turn engine one circle the dot on crank is across the cam on other side. Sorry I don't no what I'm doing. Please help me can't aford a new mower. Thanks Joey!
