Check the mounting points for the tensioning spring as the spring tends to chop through the steel.
As decks get old the pulleys wear so the belt becomes looser.
Solution is to go down 1/2" to 1" in belt size.
Almost every mower that runs an A section belt that is better than 5 years old is a candidate for a shorter belt.
