Tiger Cat gas cap tether fell into tank

The tether that holds the gas cap broke off the cap and fell into the tank. Any suggestions on the best way to get it out? I'd rather not leave it in there if I can avoid it.
 
Pull the tank and flush it out. Blow it out with shop air and safety glasses. Tank is probably is full of water, grass, leaves, gas caps, engine blocks and so on anyway. Put fresh fuel lines on while you are there.
 
Tethers are for those who loses fuel caps because they can't remember to put them back on after refueling. My load that is a large fuel that is easily noticed. But course I cars with the fuel caps hanging out and fuel doors never closed. Reinstalling fuel caps and closing the access covers should be automatic. Probably why the manufacture of vehicles are now putting warning lights on the dash. What they need to install is a little hammer that comes out and hit the operator up side of head.

As replacement tethers it is called replacing the complete fuel cap at $$$ because the tethers are not available separately.
 
We called them dummy cords in the Army. Cut off the plastic OEM teather. Little 550 cord and you are golden.
 
My Cub Cadet RZT-50S has a tether on the cap and that thing is a hinderance whenever the cap is tightened down because it binds in the groove of the cap.

Life would be easier without the tether.
