I think everybody was lucky there.
they say if you hear the boom then you survived. It's the one you don't hear that gets you.

You should live in the Tampa bay area...."the lightning capitol of the world" You see lighting like that every night through the summer. It's pretty to look at but it sure does a lot of damage to sensitive electronics.
