Hi, Newbie here.
I've been running this tractor from March through October weekly here in Texas for the past 4 years.
I've replaced the tires but other than that, it's been a trouble free mower.

Taking it out of the shed this year, I noticed the battery is dead and the transmission is pretty noisy. It easily pull-stars and still runs but I was considering replacing the tractor.
After looking at the comparable models out there, I was unimpressed. They're expensive and the reviews aren't exactly glowing on them either.
So, I hosed down the Weed Eater and discovered it still looks in fairly new condition.
So, what to do?

I called Sears and ordered an upgraded trans, belt, blade, and this steering gear upgrade that people have been talking about.
Total, $450 shipped.

I'm going down to install the transmission now. From what I can see, it looks pretty straight forward.

Anyone else gone down this road or had good luck with the Weed Eater One?
Thanks.

Never have. good luck with your project. Just for fun, pull apart the transmission and steering and see what you can learn? Can't hurt right?

Yes and check out the disc drive and the rubber drive wheel thats what usally wears out,. on mine I removed the mower and use it for transportation as I bought a PGT 9000 craftsman 26 hp. with a 53 inch mower,.and with a 44 inch snow blower for the winter,.

The thing with looking at reviews is only people that have something bad to say write reviews.

Look at it this way. Sears sold 5000 42 inch cut mowers last year. You see 50 bad reviews on it that means 4950 people liked it.

Best way to pick a new mower. Is set your budget then go test drive some. Pick the one that feels the best to you.

When it comes down to buying a $1500 mower just go with the one that is easy for you to use. And forget the cup holder any thing you put in it will go flat anyways.

The trans is out but there's wiring going deep into it. I believe it's for the reverse gear cutout that kills the motor when put in reverse with the blade running.
I'd just delete the feature except there's 3 wires so it may be a transistor instead of a simple switch.

Never mind, got it.
Waiting for the belt and blade to come in. Then the motor and wiring go in.
It already has fresh oil and air filter and it's good to go.
Hoping to get 5-10 more years out of it. Time will tell.
