The neighbors yard you love to hate!

In the neighborhood I live in everyone takes pride in their property. They maintain proper upkeep on their grass and it makes the neighborhood very attractive. Well all but one neighbor, his yard looks terrible, tons of weeds, he barely ever mows and when he does it looks terrible. I feel that it hurts the quality of the neighborhood and makes us look bad. Does anyone have a neighbor like this?

If ONE yard makes your neighborhood look bad... you are in a miserable neighborhood.

Myself, I would be more concerned with what type of person my neighbor is, than what type yard he keeps.
The type of people that want all the houses and lawns to look the same usually move out of neighborhoods and into home owner associations, then end up being miserable because all the rules and covenants restrict them:mad:...
Enjoy all your neighbors and learn to appreciate the contras.... KennyV

I live next to an authentic Log Cabin built in the 1850's. He just never sharpens his blades and throws the grass everywhere. He also used to own the property my house is on. I had a stake survey before I moved in. He still comes way too wide and cuts my grass of course with a lower cut than I use. But the house is sitting on about 2 acres and heck it is a cool log cabin. Live and let live.

LOL @ Mace Canute!

We don't live in a neighborhood any longer but when we did we had neighbors like this. Broken down cars. Dog houses without owning a dog. Tarps over junk. It was a nightmare. We take pride in our yard so it's difficult when you have people living next to you that don't.

Look at it this way: It just makes your yard look better! ~~ grnspot110

I feel the same way, a lot of my neighbors just don't care about there lawn looking good. It makes my yard, although not perfect, look very well taken care of. They're really nice people though, I hang out and drink beer with them all the time.

These kind of neighbors are pretty much all over. In fact, they seem to exist to mess up things up. Is he fond of his place or shows up once in a while?

My cop neighbor has a tiny yard, which he keeps close mowed and pay to have a lawn service spray, it looks like a putting green. Mine is pretty much a mixture of weeds and crabgrass and I don't mow it as often as I used to. Yet, when he has people over, whose yard do the park on when the drive is full? Whose yard do his kids choose to play on? Who comes over and does archery target practice on my yard? Whose yard do the rest of the neighbors drive on when they have to haul stuff back to my brushpile?

Yes, I may have the worst yard in the neighborhood, but my yard is BIGGER than the rest of my half dozen neighbors yards put together...have to wonder what theirs would look like if it were as big as mine....

There are both types of people in my neighborhood. There are the ones who take extreme pride in their yards and lawns as well as the folks who think junked cars are accent pieces, live and let live, in most cases I can spend more time with the guy with the junk cars than the one with the mint lawn.

Now that is a refreshingly TRUE way to look at it... :smile:KennyV

If this is the entire list of complaints, consider yourself lucky. very lucky. I have neighbors that I wish my only comlaint was some junk laying around or a yard full of weeds.

dont be a lazy irrespnsible homeowner. if you cant properly maintain a home , get an apartment. ANY neighborhood is your castle, your pride and joy, and in most cases your biggest investment. treat it and respect it well. and the neighbors that surround you.Junk cars laying around, lawns uncut, windows broken etc. is an extension of who you are.Take pride in every thing you do........."if better is possible then good is not enough"

Very well stated, pride in home ownership is reflected in how you care for your property...many times I get behind in mowing during the rainy months and with a 5 acre yard that is easy to do, but I never let the grass get knee high.:laughing:

Our township hired a code enforcement officer a few years back, he cracked down on several people with the "no junk cars" rules, I had a 20 year old pickup that sat outside and I used it to haul debris and firewood around, it wasn't registered but was running and wasn't a junker, well he said I had to store it indoors because of no plates. Rules are rules but he was being somewhat of a jerk because the farm a half mile north of us has unregistered non running vehicles and junk farm equipment everyplace. And he didn't say anything to them.

Makes you wonder if their house looks as bad on the inside. There are a lot of places that have neighborhood associations and a messy yard is trouble with a capital T.

We have a mixture to be honest. One old guy over the road sleeps all day as he's on medication and never mows or cleans his leaves up but we take turns to do it for him, and another of my neighbours is so fussy he picks individual leaves off his lawn with a tool!

Look at it this way...in the summer months my yard isn't always as nice as my neighbors are but during at least a quarter of the year mine is better maintained than theirs is because I am the only one who is really devoted to keeping his driveway clear. Does that count for something?

Your drive sounds a lot like mine, which by the way makes me remember way way back when the kids were home and 9 yes 9 no not 8 but 9 stinking cars in the drive and in front of the house, boy i'm sure glad those days are gone, yea now my drive has no cars, no snow, no weeds:laughing: yea i made a pusher just for the drive to get every last snow flake off and its usually the best drive in the neighborhood:thumbsup:

No, but I know what you mean. When someone's lawn doesn't look as good as everyone else's, it really stands out and I think makes the neighborhood look worse. I know it shouldn't be that way, but it is. I have so many people in my area that have amazing lawns and it makes me want to step up my game. Keeps me on my toes for sure lol.
