Just bought a used rider model YTH20K46. Was mowing and suddenly it started making a grinding noise and wouldn't go forward. When I depressed the parking brake a little the noise would stop and it would move forward or in reverse still making the noise. Even with the blade disengaged it still would make the noise. Depress the parking brake pedal just a little and the noise stops. What do I need to check out?

It could be the tension pulley(s) under the deck. When the clutch is released it puts tension on the drive belt and off you go.
Remove the pulley and check it for smooth rotation. Replace as needed.

I have the same exact mower with the same exact problem. Curious to know if you ever found the problem. I have checked all tension/idler pulleys and even checked out the hydro/K46 unit and everything seems fine. It starts making the grinding noise when the brake is released (last inch of pedal travel).
