Okay sounds you got narrowed to the area that causing the problem. Now it is just a matter of finding what in that area that has failed. Be it a bad splice, broken wire, or a failed diode. Just I knew where diode was but I have never worked on one these diesel units.
At this point, I'm just going to go around any broken splice or blown diode and run a new wire and a new diode, That entire wire harness is wrapped up in some very nice yellow netting that looks substantial. Not going to go in there and make a mess of that. I am a neat freak so the wire will be yellow, it will be wire tied well and will look almost factory. I'm old, I have plenty of time and not much to do! Thank you for your able assistance!

Sounds like they used some Techflex Expandable Wire & Cable Sleeving and pulled it tight. Tough stuff especially the flame retardant version. Now there is another version that is stiff the warps around onto itself. Either version makes it hard to deal with.

Sometimes adding a splice is just easier once you know which circuit that got to be repaired. Just keep it tied against the old harness for a neath professional type repair and to keep it out moving parts. Zip ties are cheap too.
