Wrong about some models not having a solenoid. It's on page 27 of the Lawn-Boy mechanics handbook after the green section on F engines.

If you have one of those engines, still running and electric start working, don't sell it for less than $250. That solenoid and setup was the reason for it's demise. I haven't seen one and don't care to, in over 20 years.
