I bought a used Sutech SSD33 and the belt that goes to activate the deck was broken. I bought a new one and installed it. When I tried to start it is very hard to pull. The new belt has no play in it at all.

Also, the engage lever doesn't seem to do anything when I try to push it forward. Very hard to push and doesn't change anything. I don't know if it is engaged or not. I suspect it is engaged. Maybe that is why the engine is so hard to pull.

Any help would be appreciated. It does try to start but dies in one second due to some stress.

I will check tonight but I suspect they are turning because the new belt doesn't have any play in it. When it is unengaged how much play should be there?
I have a feeling that there was some adjustment made before I got the mower since the old belt was really old.

If the blades are turning... then the release system is Not functioning.
That would indicate that the replacement belt is Either too short Or it's path is not properly routed.
This is using a simple idler pully movement for the clutch, the problem should be easily sorted out... :smile:KennyV

I adjusted the idler arm pulley so the blades on the deck no longer turn. When I start the mower the main pulley on the motor shaft is extremely hot after running the mower for just 30-45 seconds. Is this due to the belt friction before the deck is actually engaged. I realize once it is engaged it is no longer rubbing. Is this heat normal on this pulley? I guess I am paranoid at this point. I trying hard to make sure I do everything right.

It should Not be tight enough to generate a lot of heat when it is not engaged ...The engine itself will conduct some heat to the pulley. It should be adjusted so that it has enough tension on the belt so as No slippage when in use... :smile:KennyV
