Did you get a HIPA carb? (just wondering)

If it runs smoother but throttle rpms are way off check the STATIC GOVERNOR ADJUST.
 
I started it up again during the daytime this time and it definitely runs way way better than before. The plan is still to mow the lawn with it friday.
But in the meantime, its still really hard to start. It came with a new primer bulb, which I installed. But even after priming, I have to pull the cord MANY times to get it started, what do you make of that?

Also as I type this, I wonder if the gasket between the airfilter box and the carb is wrong and is blocking the primer from actually priming. Guess I have to check that.
 
Yup the gasket was blocking the..... primer's airhole, I guess you'd call it?

I used a different gasket with a hole there, it needed some minor mods but now everything is lined up and its 3am so I can't test it now but I suspect just like a healthy snowblower, three primes and it will be good to go.

I've had seemingly simple gaskets trip me up a few times, especially on the air box/inlet side of the carburetor.

Ok heres the final repair. It doesn't run truly perfect but its absolutely good enough for me.
Its on craigslist and fb marketplace right now, and I'll be mowing with it with my seafoam gas every week until it sells, which is hopefully soon.
This project took way longer than expected, primarily because that first replacement carburetor threw me off. I think part of the reason I was confused about the detailed symptoms between the original corroded carb and the second faulty carb, is that I think that second carb was the one that got lost in the mail, so it took weeks to get it.

Anyway, its all good now. This mower is from 1998. It makes me wonder just how long my husqvarma/honda mower can last if I keep taking proper care of it. We say "forever" but like.... literally forever? 50 years? 100 years? Gas probably won't exist by then but its interesting to think about.

Well thats all for this post. When I finish editing the full repair video, which is probably weeks away, I'll come back and post a link if anyone is interested in it. Otherwise, thanks for the help. Hopefully my next power project isn't nearly as.... annoying :)
 
Finally posted the full repair video. The whole repair kind of turned into a mess but I think I was able to squeeze out a decent enough video. I will be glad when this lawnmower sells and is out of my life :D
