Suggestions on Toro mower drive transmission?

I have a Toro 22" front-drive self-propelled walk-behind mower, model 20016. I recently replaced the original Tecumseh engine with a Kawasaki, which is somewhat heavier than the Tec motor was. Now differential in the front-drive has ground down its teeth. I have disassembled the front axle drive and would like to buy only the axle and pinion gears, but the Toro site seems to say that only the complete transmission is available, at a cost of over $66.00.

Would anyone have any suggestions about where I could buy just the gears?

How are you supposed to lubricate such an axle drive system?

Thanks.

Here are pictures of the old gearbox and the new one. They lubed the new one with a sticky, black grease that visually resembles tar, but it's not as thick as axle grease. What kind of lube it it?

You can use Lubriplate 105. Waterproof NLGI No. 0 grease.
