I have a small Stihl chainsaw, and a hedge trimmer. Both have given good service, but they are invariably hard to start. Choke, pull 2-3 times, release choke, pull 1-2 times, and then they run fine. I have other two cycle stuff including a Shindaiwa string trimmer and RedMax backpack blower that usually start on the first pull. The Stihl equipmnet must be designed that way, as my tree guys all use Stihl saws, and they say it's the way they are. Wonder why?

Thats the way they are, just remember the harder you pull the rope does not make it start any better, that will just break your rope faster. after they are warmed up, and you need to restart, they should usually start on the first pull.
