I use the pliers instead of the snap ring.

Ah now I see what you mean as if the pliers opening between the tips are enough they would work. It didn't even dawn on me but what does at 3-4 am. That is thinking outside the box per say. Boy I am getting rusty or maybe it is time for a vacation. Covered up in other work.
